\u201cMy master himself pounded the paste; there\u2019d be rainstorm and flash flood. I never saw him this serious, usually he\u2019d make me pound to his instruction; and he made the curry.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat else?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to climb and pick ripe coconut to crack and grate for him to press with warm water for coconut cream and milk until the coconut is bone dry.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not all. He went down the garden and picked wild cherry tomato of green, yellow and red; young pineapple he grated diagonally to rid the eyes as if he were a vendor.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then a handful of old tree basil leaf from near to the base.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThen what, what did he do?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWith meat fresh from the market, he cut to bite size, roasted in a dry wok, dropped fish sauce and Chinese rice wine so there was no trace of stench. He rested it; ladled coconut cream into the wok until oil extracted, added curry paste to heavenly pervade, Miss Nan, Miss Nee. He added the meat to absorb the creamy paste, more coconut milk to boil; then tomato, pineapple and tree basil leaf; taste the curry but didn\u2019t season with any.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCouldn\u2019t you see what kind of meat he curried?\u201d Miss Nan asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh! I saw the package label; it was duck meat: Duck Khua Curry with Tree Basil Leaf.\u201d<\/p>\n
