หลังถูกเสือทำร้ายเมื่อช่วงบ่ายของวันเสาร์ที่ 10 ต.ค.ตามเวลาท้องถิ่น ท่ามกลางความตื่นตระหนกของผู้เห็นเหตุการณ์ที่ระบุว่าชายคนดังกล่าวเดินเข้าไปในส่วนจัดแสดงเสือ และเจ้าหน้าที่กำลังสอบสวนเพิ่มเติม
ตำรวจกล่าวว่า หลังจากชายคนดังกล่าวเข้าไปในส่วนจัดแสดงก็มีเสือตัวหนึ่งตรงเข้าทำร้ายและเสียชีวิตในที่เกิดเหตุ โดยเสือไม่ได้รับบาดเจ็บใดๆ และส่วนจัดแสดงถูกปิดหลังเกิดเหตุซึ่งสวนสัตว์ระบุว่าจะปิดทำการตลอดช่วงสุดสัปดาห์

ทั้งนี้ สวนสัตว์ยอร์กเชอร์ ไวด์ไลฟ์ พาร์ก เปิดให้บริการเมื่อปี 2552 โดยโซน “Land of the Tigers” (ดินแดนแห่งเสือ) เปิดให้บริการในปี 2554 พื้นที่อนุรักษ์ขนาด 2 เอเคอร์ (ราว 5 ไร่) แห่งนี้ได้รับการออกแบบและสร้างขึ้นโดยเฉพาะเพื่อเป็นที่อยู่อาศัยของเสืออามูร์ที่เสี่ยงต่อการสูญพันธุ์ และปัจจุบันเหลือประชากรในธรรมชาติเพียงประมาณ 500 ตัวเท่านั้น
