โควิด: อังกฤษสังเวยไวรัสมรณะ – วันที่ 13 เม.ย. บีบีซี รายงานสถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดของ ไวรัสโครโรนาสายพันธุ์ใหม่ 2019 ที่ก่อให้เกิด โรคโควิด-19 ใน สหราชอาณาจักร ว่า พบผู้เสียชีวิตรายใหม่ 737 คนในช่วง 24 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา ส่งผลให้ยอดผู้เสียชีวิตเพิ่มขึ้นเป็น 10,612 คน
ขณะที่ยอดผู้ป่วยสะสมอยู่ที่ 85,199 คน แซงหน้าประเทศจีนขึ้นมาเป็นอันดับ 6 ของประเทศที่มีผู้ติดเชื้อมากที่สุดในโลก รองจากสหรัฐอเมริกา สเปน อิตาลี ฝรั่งเศส และเยอรมนี
นายแมตต์ แฮนค็อก รัฐมนตนตรีว่าการกระทรวงสาธารณสุขอังกฤษ แถลงว่าวันนี้เป็นวันแห่งความโศกเศร้าของประเทศ จากความสูญเสียครั้งใหญ่ภายหลังยอดผู้เสียชีวิตด้วยโรคโควิด-19 เพิ่มขึ้นเกินหมื่นราย พร้อมยอมรับว่าตัวเลขดังกล่าวเป็นรายงานยืนยันเฉพาะผู้ป่วยที่เสียชีวิตในโรงพยาบาล ไม่รวมผู้เสียชีวิตนอกสถานพยาบาลซึ่งคาดว่ามีอีกจำนวนมาก
อย่างไรก็ตาม นายแฮนค็อกขอบคุณที่ประชาชนส่วนปฏิบัติตามคำแนะนำกักตัวอยู่ที่บ้านในช่วงเทศกาลฉลองวันอีสเตอร์
