ทีมนักวิทย์ค้นพบ “ไวรัสตับอักเสบซี” คว้ารางวัลโนเบลแพทย์ปี 2020
ทีมนักวิทย์ค้นพบ “ไวรัสตับอักเสบซี” – วันที่ 5 ต.ค. เว็บไซต์โนเบลไพรซ์ รายงานว่า คณะกรรมการรางวัลโนเบลสาขาสรีศาสตร์หรือการแพทย์ที่สถาบันแคโรลินสกาในกรุงสตอกโฮล์ม ประเทศสวีเดน ประกาศมอบ รางวัลโนเบลสาขาสรีศาสตร์หรือการแพทย์ ประจำปี 2020 แก่
นพ.ฮาร์วี เจ. อัลเตอร์ นักไวรัสวิทยาและนักวิจัยชาวอเมริกัน นายไมเคิล ฮอตัน นักวิทยาศาสตร์ชาวอังกฤษ และ นายชาร์ลส์ เอ็ม. ไรซ์ ศาสตราจารย์ชาวอเมริกัน จากมหาวิทยาลัยร็อกเกอะเฟลเลอร์ นครนิวยอร์ก จากการค้นพบ ไวรัสตับอักเสบซี (เอชซีวี) โดยผู้ชนะได้รับเงินรางวัลร่วมกัน 10 ล้านโครเนอร์สวีเดน หรือราว 35 ล้านบาท
ทั้งนี้ นักวิทยาศาสตร์ทั้ง 3 คนมีส่วนร่วมในการต่อสู้กับโรคตับอักเสบซึ่งเป็นโรคที่ติดเชื้อผ่านทางเลือด หนึ่งในปัญหาสุขภาพระดับโลกที่ก่อให้เกิดโรคตับแข็งและมะเร็งตับ
ในส่วนของนพ.อัลเตอร์นั้นได้ศึกษาวิธีรักษาโรคไวรัสตับอักเสบที่เป็นสาเหตุของโรคตับอักเสบเรื้อรัง ขณะที่นายฮอตันแยกจีโนมของไวรัสชนิดใหม่ซึ่งต่อมาเรียกว่า ไวรัสตับอักเสบซี และศาสตราจารย์ไรซ์เป็นผู้ยืนยันด้วยหลักฐานว่าไวรัสตับอักเสบซีเพียงชนิดเดียวสามารถก่อให้เกิดโรคตับอักเสบได้
