แผ่นดินไหว 7.0 แม็กนิจูด – วันที่ 22 ม.ค. เดลีเมล์ รายงานว่า เมื่อเวลา 20.23 น. ของวันที่ 21 ม.ค. ตามเวลาท้องถิ่นของ ฟิลิปปินส์ สำนักธรณีวิทยาสหรัฐอเมริกา (ยูเอสจีเอส) แถลงพบแผ่นดินไหวขนาด 7.0 แม็กนิจูด มีจุดศูนย์กลางห่างจากเมืองปอนดากุยตัน จังหวัดคันลูรังดาเวา ราว 210 กิโลเมตร และอยู่ลึกลงไปใต้ทะเล 95.8 กิโลเมตร
แม้จะมีแรงสั่นสะเทือนรุนแรง แต่สำนักธรณีวิทยาระบุว่าแผ่นดินไหวครั้งนี้จะไม่ก่อให้เกิดความเสียหายมากนัก เนื่องจากอยู่ลึกลงไปมาก ขณะที่ระบบเตือนภัยสึนามิของสหรัฐแถลงว่าแผ่นดินไหวที่คันลูรังดาเวาไม่มีภัยคุกคามของสึนามิ

A powerful 7.0-magnitude earthquake shook parts of the southern Philippines on Thursday night. The quake measured a preliminary 7.0 magnitude and was located 95.8 kilometres (60 miles) below the sea and about 210 kilometres (130 miles) southeast of Pondaguitan in Davao Occidental province, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
