ศรีลังกา “สลายม็อบเดือด” – บีบีซี รายงานเมื่อวันที่ 9 พ.ค. ว่า นายมหินทะ ราชปักษา นายกรัฐมนตรีศรีลังกายื่นจดหมายขอลาออกต่อ ประธานาธิบดีโกตาบายา ราชปักษา ผู้เป็นน้องชาย
ไม่นานหลังจากรัฐบาลศรีลังกาแถลงบังคับใช้มาตรการเคอร์ฟิวในกรุงโคลัมโบเพื่อควบคุมการประท้วงขับไล่นายโกตาบายา รวมถึงนักการเมืองในตระกูลราชปักษา เพราะไม่สามารถแก้วิกฤตเศรษฐกิจครั้งใหญ่ในรอบ 74 ปี ตั้งแต่ประเทศได้รับอิสรภาพจากอังกฤษ เมื่อปี 2491 ได้
รายงานระบุอีกว่าการประท้วงดังกล่าวบานปลายจนเกิดการใช้ความรุนแรง เจ้าหน้าที่ความมั่นคงใช้กำลังสลายผู้ประท้วง รวมทั้งยิงแก๊สน้ำตาและฉีดน้ำแรงดันสูง
ส่งผลให้มีผู้เสียชีวิตแล้วอย่างน้อย 3 ราย และได้รับบาดเจ็บราว 150 คน ขณะที่ปัญหาเศรษฐกิจยังไม่คลี่คลาย ราคาอาหาร เชื้อเพลิง และของจำเป็นยังสูงขึ้นต่อเนื่อง
