ทางการรับผิด “ระบบเตือน” – วันที่ 24 ก.พ. เอเอฟพี รายงานความคืบหน้าสถานการณ์น้ำท่วมและ ดินโคลนถล่ม ครั้งรุนแรงในนครเซาเปาโล ทางตอนใต้ของ ประเทศบราซิล หลังฝนตกหนักตั้งแต่สุดสัปดาห์ก่อนว่า
ยอดผู้เสียชีวิตเพิ่มเป็นอย่างน้อย 50 ราย แต่คาดว่ายังมีผู้ประสบภัยจำนวนมากติดใต้ซากปรักหังพังของอาคารบ้านเรือน ขณะที่หน่วยกู้ภัยยังระดมกำลังค้นหาต่อเนื่อง พร้อมระบุว่าความหวังที่จะเจอผู้รอดชีวิตริบหรี่ลง
ด้าน นายทาร์ซิซิโอ เดอ ฟรายตัส ผู้ว่าการรัฐซานเปาโล แถลงยอมรับความผิดพลาดของระบบเตือนภัย แม้จะส่งข้อความแจ้งไปยังประชาชนในพื้นที่เสี่ยงภัยกว่า 2.6 ล้านข้อความ แต่เห็นได้ชัดว่าระบบนี้ไม่มีประสิทธิภาพเพราะผู้คนยังได้รับผลกระทบ และไม่สามารถอพยพได้ทันท่วงที
