ทัพไนเจอร์ “ก่อรัฐประหาร” – บีบีซี รายงานวันที่ 27 ก.ค. ว่า คณะทหาร สาธารณรัฐไนเจอร์ ประเทศในภูมิภาคแอฟริกาตะวันตก ประกาศ ก่อรัฐประหาร ผ่านสถานีโทรทัศน์แห่งชาติ พร้อมทั้งยกเลิกรัฐธรรมนูญฉบับปัจจุบัน รวมถึงระงับการทำงานของสถาบันทั้งหมด และสั่งปิดพรมแดนของประเทศ
เหตุดังกล่าวเกิดขึ้นหลังจากประธานาธิบดีโมฮาเหม็ด บาซูม ผู้นำไนเจอร์ ถูกกองทัพควบคุมตัวตั้งแต่เช้าวันพุธที่ 26 ก.ค.ตามเวลาท้องถิ่น ด้านนายอันโตนิโอ กูเตร์เรส เลขาธิการสหประชาชาติ (ยูเอ็น) กล่าวว่าได้พูดคุยกับนายบาซูมและเสนอการสนับสนุนอย่างเต็มที่จากสหประชาชาติ
ส่วนหนึ่งเพราะนายบาซูมถือเป็นพันธมิตรคนสำคัญของชาติตะวันตกและมีบทบาทในการต่อต้านกลุ่มติดอาวุธมุสลิมสายสุดโต่งในแอฟริกาตะวันตก

รายงานระบุอีกว่า พล.ต.อมาดู อับดรามาเน พร้อมด้วยทหารในเครื่องแบบอีก 9 นายยืนอยู่ด้านหลัง ประกาศทางโทรทัศน์ว่า “เรา…กองกำลังป้องกันและความมั่นคงได้ตัดสินใจที่จะยุติระบอบการปกครองที่พวกคุณรู้จัก สิ่งนี้เกิดขึ้นจากสถานการณ์ความมั่นคงที่เลวร้ายลงอย่างต่อเนื่อง เช่นเดียวกับเศรษฐกิจและธรรมาภิบาลที่ย่ำแย่”
นอกจากนี้พล.ต.อับดรามาเนยังกล่าวด้วยว่าสถาบันทั้งหมดของประเทศถูกระงับ รัฐมนตรีกระทรวงต่างๆ จะดูแลงานประจำวัน และกองทัพจะทำหน้าที่ในฐานะสภาแห่งชาติเพื่อปกป้องมาตุภูมิ
“เราขอความร่วมมือจากภายนอกทั้งหมดไม่ให้เข้ามาแทรกแซง พรมแดนทางบกและทางอากาศถูกปิดจนกว่าสถานการณ์จะมีเสถียรภาพ” และว่าเคอร์ฟิวจะมีผลบังคับใช้ตั้งแต่เวลา 22.00-05.00 น. จนกว่าจะมีประกาศเพิ่มเติม
