ไล่ ชิงเต๋อ คะแนนพุ่งพรวด – วันที่ 13 ม.ค. บีบีซี รายงานความคืบหน้าการเลือกตั้งในไต้หวันว่า ผลการนับคะแนนอย่างไม่เป็นทางการปรากฏว่า นายไล่ ชิงเต๋อ หรือ นายวิลเลียม ไล่ รองประธานาธิบดี ตัวแทนพรรคประชาธิปไตยก้าวหน้า (ดีดีพี) พรรครัฐบาลของ ประธานาธิบดีไช่ อิงเหวิน ที่ยืนยัดนโยบายต่อต้านจีน ได้รับคะแนนมากกว่า 5 ล้านเสียง ส่งผลให้นำเป็นอันดับ 1 ที่ร้อยละ 42

ส่วนนายโหว โหย่วอี้ ผู้แทนจากพรรคก๊กมินตั๋ง (เคเอ็มที) ฝ่ายฝักใฝ่จีน มีคะแนนตามมาเป็นอันดับ 2 ที่ร้อยละ 33.2 และนายเค่อ เหวินเจ๋อ จากพรรคประชาชนไต้หวัน (ทีพีพี) ที่มาพร้อมนโยบายเป็นกลาง รั้งอันดับ 3 ที่คะแนนร้อยละ 24.5
รายงานระบุด้วยว่านายโหว โหย่วอี้ กล่าวยอมรับความพ่ายแพ้ในศึกเลือกตั้งครั้งนี้ “ขอบคุณทุกคน ผมพยายามอย่างดีที่สุดแล้ว ผมรู้สึกเศร้าใจที่ไม่สามารถเปลี่ยนรัฐบาลได้ ผมขอโทษจริงๆ”
ก่อนหน้านี้ทางการจีนส่งสัญญาณข่มขู่ว่าการเลือกผู้นำผิดๆ อาจเป็นต้นตอให้เกิดสงครามบนเกาะไต้หวันได้ ทั้งยังตำหนินายไล่ ชิงเต๋อ ว่าเป็น “ผู้แบ่งแยกดินแดน” ขณะที่กระทรวงกลาโหมจีนให้คำมั่นว่าจะใช้มาตรการที่จำเป็นทั้งหมดเพื่อบดขยี้ความพยายามประกาศเอกราชของไต้หวันทุกรูปแบบ
