รายงานระบุว่าเหตุการณ์นี้เกิดขึ้นเมื่อช่วงเย็นของวันที่ 31 ม.ค.ที่ผ่านมา จากคลิปวิดีโอที่มีคนบันทึกไว้ได้เผยให้เห็นชายคนหนึ่งยืนอยู่บนยอดเศียรพระพุทธรูปเล่อซานก่อนจะรูดซิปกางเกงและปัสสาวะท่ามกลางความตกตะลึงของนักท่องเที่ยวจำนวนมาก
ขณะเดียวกันเจ้าหน้าที่ดูแลรีบประสานกับตำรวจเพื่อเกลี้ยกล่อมให้ชายคนดังกล่าวออกจากพื้นที่ โดยหลังจากนำตัวไปสอบปากคำ รวมถึงเข้ารับการวินิจฉัยจากสถาบันทางการแพทย์ พบว่าชายผู้ก่อเหตุมีประวัติป่วยทางจิตมานานหลายปีจึงส่งไปยังโรงพยาบาลเฉพาะทางเพื่อรับการรักษาต่อไป
