รัฐมนตรีจีนกร้าว! – วันที่ 7 มี.ค. เอเอฟพี รายงานว่า นายหวัง อี้ รัฐมนตรีกระทรวงการต่างประเทศของจีน แถลงข่าวในกรุงปักกิ่งว่า
“ใครก็ตามบนเกาะไต้หวันที่พยายามแสวงหาเอกราชของไต้หวันจะถูกชำระล้างด้วยประวัติศาสตร์อย่างหลีกเลี่ยงไม่ได้” พร้อมเสริมว่าไต้หวันจะไม่มีวันได้รับอนุญาตให้แยกออกจากดินแดนแห่งมาตุภูมิ

นอกจากนี้นายหวัง อี้ ยังระบุด้วยว่าจีนจะปกป้องสิทธิที่ถูกต้องตามกฎหมายในทะเลจีนใต้ น่านน้ำพิพาทยืดเยื้อระหว่างจีนกับหลายประเทศในภูมิภาคอาเซียน
ภายหลังเกิดกรณีเรือหน่วยยามชายฝั่งของจีนชนเข้ากับเรือของฟิลิปปินส์ขณะปฏิบัติภารกิจส่งกำลังพลและเสบียงในแนวสันดอนโธมัสที่ 2 เมื่อวันที่ 5 มี.ค.ที่ผ่านมา พร้อมเรียกร้องให้บางประเทศที่อยู่นอกภูมิภาคหยุดก่อปัญหาหรือเลือกข้างและอย่าวางตัวขัดขวางหรือสร้างปัญหาในทะเลจีนใต้
