กระทรวงยุติธรรมสหรัฐ – วันที่ 22 มี.ค. เอเอฟพี รายงานว่า กระทรวงยุติธรรมสหรัฐอเมริกายื่นฟ้องร้อง แอปเปิล บริษัทคอมพิวเตอร์และโทรศัพท์มือถือยักษ์ใหญ่ระดับโลกสัญชาติอเมริกัน เมื่อวันพฤหัสบดีที่ 21 มี.ค. ในข้อกล่าวหาว่าไอโฟน ผูกขาดตลาด โทรศัพท์มือถืออย่างผิดกฎหมายด้วยการยับยั้งการแข่งขันและตั้งราคาสูงเกินไป

คดีดังกล่าวเป็นการฟ้องโดย 17 รัฐและพุ่งเป้าโจมตีไอโฟนซึ่งทำรายได้หลายแสนล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐจากการผูกขาดตลาด และทำให้ผู้ใช้งานต้องเผชิญกับความยุ่งยากเมื่อเปลี่ยนการใช้งานจากไอโฟนเป็นโทรศัพท์มือถือยี่ห้ออื่นๆ ที่มีราคาถูกกว่า
ข้อมูลจากเอกสารฟ้องร้องบางส่วนระบุว่า ผู้ใช้งานอุปกรณ์ของบริษัทแอปเปิลถูกบีบบังคับให้อยู่ในระบบนิเวศของแอปเปิลและต้องซื้ออุปกรณ์ของแอปเปิลซึ่งมีราคาแพง
นายเมอร์ริก การ์แลนด์ อัยการสูงสุดกล่าวว่า “ผู้บริโภคไม่ควรต้องจ่ายราคาที่สูงขึ้นเนื่องจากบริษัทฝ่าฝืนกฎหมายต่อต้านการผูกขาด หากปล่อยไว้โดยไม่มีใครทักท้วงแอปเปิลจะยังคงเดินหน้าการผูกขาดตลาดสมาร์ตโฟนต่อไป”
