เหตุการณ์ดังกล่าวเกิดขึ้นเมื่อวันที่ 2 มี.ค. ตามเวลาท้องถิ่น หลังมีคนร้าย 2 รายขี่จักรยานยนต์มาก่อเหตุยิงเข้าใส่ซูเปอร์มาร์เก็ตที่ชื่อว่า ซูเปอร์เมอร์กาโด ยูนิโค ซึ่งครอบครัวของ อันโตเนลลา ร็อคคุซโซ ภรรยาของ เมสซี เป็นเจ้าของในเมืองโรซาริโอ ประเทศอาร์เจนตินา มากกว่า 14 นัด
