เมื่อวันที่ 20 พ.ย. ฟุตบอลโลก 2022 ที่กาตาร์ ซึ่งเป็นเวิลด์ คัพ ครั้งที่ 22 ในประวัติศาสตร์ได้เปิดฉากอย่างเป็นทางการ ซึ่งก่อนที่คู่แรกระหว่าง กาตาร์ เจ้าภาพกับ เอกวาดอร์ จะเริ่มฟาดแข้งนั้นได้มีการแสดงพิธีเปิดก่อนเป็นเวลา 1 ชั่วโมงครึ่ง
ไฮไลท์ของพิธีเปิดคือมาร่วมแสดงของ มอร์แกน ฟรีแมน นักแสดงชื่อดังชาวอเมริกันที่กล่าวถึงความเป็นหนึ่งเดียวของผู้คนจากทั่วโลก
ตามด้วยอีกหนึ่งการแสดงที่ประทับใจด้วยการรวมเพลงประจำการแข่งขัน และมาสคอตประจำการแข่งขันของฟุตบอลโลกในอดีตมาร่วมในพิธีเปิดด้วย
ตามด้วยการแสดงของ จองกุก หนึ่งในสมาชิกศิลปินจากวงเคป็อประดับโลก BTS ที่ขึ้นร้องเพลง “Dreamers” โดยมี ฟาฮัด อัล คูไบซี ศิลปินชาวกาตาร์มาร่วมแสดงด้วย
ก่อนปิดท้ายด้วย ชีค ฮาหมัด บิน คาลิฟา อัล ธานี เจ้าผู้ครองรัฐกาตาร์ ที่กล่าวเพื่อเปิดการแข่งขันอย่างเป็นทางการ
