5 ชาติยุโรปจ่อระดม – วันที่ 7 พ.ย. รอยเตอร์ รายงานว่า ประเทศในยุโรปจะระดมงบประมาณ 2,500 ล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐ หรือเกือบ 81,000 ล้านบาทในช่วง 5 ปีข้างหน้าเพื่ออนุรักษ์ ป่าฝนคองโก

เอกสารที่รอยเตอร์เห็นระบุว่าเป็นการระดมเงินทุนเพิ่มเติมเพื่อปกป้องและฟื้นฟูป่าฝนขนาดใหญ่อันดับสองของโลกรองจากป่าแอมะซอนนั้นเป็นหนึ่งในเป้าหมายหลักของการประชุมว่าด้วยการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพภูมิอากาศแห่งสหประชาชาติ ครั้งที่ 30 (COP30) ในเมืองเบเล็ง ประเทศบราซิล ระหว่างวันที่ 10-21 พ.ย.ที่จะถึงนี้
โครงการดังกล่าวนำโดยฝรั่งเศสและได้รับการสนับสนุนจากเยอรมนี นอร์เวย์ เบลเยียม รวมถึงสหราชอาณาจักร มีชื่อว่า “The Belem Call for the Forests of the Congo Basin”
หรือคำเรียกร้องจากเบเล็งเพื่อผืนป่าในลุ่มน้ำคองโก ทั้งนี้ ป่าฝนคองโกได้รับความสนใจอย่างมากในปัจจุบันเพราะสามารถดูดซับก๊าซเรือนกระจกสุทธิได้มากกว่าป่าอื่นๆ
