นายปีเตอร์ เฮย์นส์ ทนายความของนายดูแตร์เต แจ้งต่อศาลว่าลูกความกำลังประสบปัญหา “ความจำเสื่อมรุนแรง” ทำให้ไม่สามารถมีปฏิสัมพันธ์กับทีมทนายความได้ แม้รายงานการประเมินดังกล่าวไม่ได้เปิดเผยต่อสาธารณะ
