โควิด: โสมใต้จ่อระงับ “ฟรีวีซ่า” – วันที่ 9 เม.ย. สำนักข่าวยอนฮัป รายงานว่า นายกรัฐมนตรีชอง เซคยูน แห่งเกาหลีใต้ แถลงในที่ประชุมว่า รัฐบาลจะระงับการเข้าประเทศโดยไม่ต้องขอวีซ่า หรือฟรีวีซ่า (visa-free entry) และการยกเว้นการขอวีซ่า (visa waiver programs) เป็นการชั่วคราวกับพลเรือนใน 88 ประเทศ
แบ่งเป็นประเทศที่ไม่ต้องขอวีซ่าเข้าเกาหลีใต้ 34 ประเทศ อาทิ ออสเตรเลีย แคนาดา และ 54 ประเทศในโครงการยกเว้นการขอวีซ่า ได้แก่ ฝรั่งเศส รัสเซีย และประเทศไทย เพื่อเร่งยับยั้งและลดจำนวนผู้ป่วยโรคโควิด-19 ที่มาจากต่างแดน
ภายหลังยอดผู้ป่วยสะสมของเกาหลีใต้ทะลุหมื่นคนเป็นประเทศล่าสุด ที่ 10,423 คน ในจำนวนนี้เสียชีวิตแล้วอย่างน้อย 204 คน และรักษาหาย 6,973 คน
รายงานยังระบุอีกว่าก่อนหน้านี้ 148 ประเทศ ครอบคลุมประเทศในยุโรป 41 ประเทศ และอีก 36 ประเทศในเอเชียและแปซิฟิก ประกาศใช้มาตรการห้ามพลเรือนชาวเกาหลีใต้เดินทางเข้าประเทศนั้นๆ หลังจากการแพร่ระบาดของโควิด-19 ในเมืองแทกู หรือแดกูมีความรุนแรงและทำให้ยอดผู้ติดเชื้อเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างรวดเร็วจนถูกมองว่าเป็นศูนย์กลางการแพร่กระจายไวรัสโคโรนาสายพันธุ์ใหม่ในเอเชีย ต่อจากเมืองอู่ฮั่น มณฑลหูเป่ย ของประเทศจีน
ทั้งนี้ แม้เกาหลีใต้จะไม่ได้ประกาศใช้มาตรการห้ามชาวต่างชาติเดินทางเข้าประเทศโดยเด็ดขาด แต่การยกระดับดังกล่าวจะทำให้การเดินทางไปเกาหลีใต้ยากขึ้น
