สื่อท้องถิ่นรายงานว่าตำรวจได้รับแจ้งเหตุรถยนต์ชนซ้อนคันกันจำนวนหลายคัน เมื่อประมาณ 08.00 น. ตามเวลาท้องถิ่น โดยอุบัติเหตุดังกล่าวเกิดขึ้นบนทางด่วนระหว่างเมืองในเมืองคิซาราซุ บริเวณทางด่วนซึ่งเป็นสองเลนสวนกัน
