เบื้องต้นพบผู้เสียชีวิตแล้วอย่างน้อย 11 ราย และอีก 32 คนบาดเจ็บ ขณะเดียวกันอาคารบ้านเรือนจำนวนมากได้รับความเสียหาย รถยนต์หลายสิบคันถูกกระแสน้ำเชี่ยวกรากซัดลงแม่น้ำ และถนนหลายสายถูกตัดขาด
ด้านนายกเทศมนตรีกรุงกีโตเปิดเผยว่าน้ำฝนมีปริมาณมากถึง 75 ลิตรต่อตารางเมตร ถือเป็นปริมาณน้ำฝนในช่วง 24 ชั่วโมงที่มากที่สุดตั้งแต่ปี 2546
