อิรักอ่วมอีก “พายุทรายถล่ม” – เอเอฟพี และไอเอ็นเอรายงานวันที่ 5 พ.ค. ถึงสถานการณ์ พายุทราย รุนแรงพัดถล่มใน 6 จังหวัดของ อิรัก รวมถึงกรุงแบกแดด และจังหวัดอัล-อันบาร์ ทางตะวันตก
ส่งผลให้ทั่วทั้งเมืองถูกปกคลุมไปด้วยทรายและฝุ่นที่จับตัวหนาแน่นคล้ายเมฆทึบ ประชาชนมากกว่า 1,000 คนประสบปัญหาระบบทางเดินหายใจและต้องเข้ารับการรักษาที่โรงพยาบาล

ด้านเจ้าหน้าที่กระทรวงสาธารณสุขอิรักระบุว่าโรงพยาบาลหลายแห่งในจังหวัดอัล-อันบาร์ มีผู้ป่วยกว่า 700 คนเข้ารักษาเพราะหายใจติดขัด
ขณะที่จังหวัดซาลาเฮดดิน ทางตอนกลาง มีผู้ป่วยจากพายุทรายเข้าแอตมิดราว 300 คน ส่วนจังหวัดดิวานิยาห์ และเมืองนาจาฟ ทางตอนใต้ของกรุงแบกแดด มีผู้ป่วยที่ละกว่า 100 คน
ทั้งนี้ พายุทรายเป็นปรากฏการณ์ธรรมชาติที่เกิดขึ้นในเขตทะเลทราย และแม้จะเป็นเรื่องปกติที่เกิดขึ้นในอิรัก แต่พบว่าผลจากความแห้งแล้ง ฝนที่ตกน้อยลง และการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางสภาวะอากาศ ทำให้เกิดพายุทะเลทรายมากขึ้น
