ตื่นตายานสำรวจนาซาเผยภาพ – ซินหัว รายงานว่า องค์การบริหารการบินและอวกาศแห่งชาติของสหรัฐอเมริกา (นาซา) เปิดเผยเมื่อวันที่ 29 ก.ย.ที่ผ่านมาว่ายานสำรวจพื้นผิว “เพอร์เซเวียแรนส์” (Perseverance) บันทึกภาพ “พายุฝุ่น” (dust devil) หรือ “ลมบ้าหมู” บนดาวอังคาร
รายงานระบุว่ายานสำรวจเพอร์เซเวียแรนส์สามารถจับภาพกระแสลมวนที่เต็มไปด้วยฝุ่นเคลื่อนตัวตามขอบตะวันตกของ “แอ่งหลุมอุกกาบาตเยเซโร” (Jezero Crater) เมื่อวันที่ 30 ส.ค. ซึ่งเป็นวันที่ 899 ของภารกิจสำรวจพื้นผิวดาวอังคาร
พายุฝุ่นที่มีกำลังอ่อนกว่าและขนาดเล็กกว่าทอร์นาโดบนโลก จัดเป็นหนึ่งในกลไกที่เคลื่อนย้ายและกระจายฝุ่นทั่วดาวอังคาร โดยคณะนักวิทยาศาสตร์ศึกษาพายุฝุ่นเพื่อเข้าใจชั้นบรรยากาศและปรับปรุงแบบจำลองสภาพอากาศของดาวอังคารให้ดียิ่งขึ้น
นาซาระบุด้วยว่าพายุฝุ่นที่เกิดบนโลกเช่นกันเกิดขึ้นเมื่อมวลอากาศร้อนปะทะกับมวลอากาศเย็นกว่า โดยพายุฝุ่นบนดาวอังคารสามารถมีขนาดใหญ่กว่าพายุฝุ่นบนโลกอย่างมาก
ทั้งนี้ ยานสำรวจพื้นผิวเพอร์เซเวียแรนส์ถูกปล่อยจากรัฐฟลอริดาของสหรัฐ เมื่อวันที่ 30 ก.ค.2563 และลงจอดบนดาวอังคารอย่างปลอดภัยเมื่อเดือนก.พ.2564 ยานสำรวจลำนี้จะเก็บตัวอย่างดาวอังคารกลับสู่โลกตามภารกิจในอนาคต โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์หลักคือ “ชีวดาราศาสตร์” (astrobiology) ครอบคลุมการค้นหาสัญญาณของสิ่งมีชีวิตจำพวกจุลินทรีย์โบราณ
