โปแลนด์ลุยแผน – บีบีซี รายงานวันที่ 8 มี.ค. ว่า นายกรัฐมนตรีโดนัลด์ ทัสก์ ผู้นำโปแลนด์ กล่าวต่อที่ประชุมรัฐสภาว่ากำลังดำเนินการให้ชายวัยผู้ใหญ่ทุกคนในประเทศเข้ารับการฝึกอบรมทางทหาร
“เราจะเตรียมแผนให้พร้อมภายในสิ้นปีนี้สำหรับผู้ชายวัยผู้ใหญ่ทุกคนในโปแลนด์ที่จะเข้ารับการฝึกฝนในกรณีเกิดสงครามเพื่อให้การสำรองกำลังเพียงพอต่อภัยคุกคามที่อาจเกิดขึ้น” นายทัสก์กล่าว

ก่อนเสริมว่ากองทัพยูเครนมีทหารกว่า 800,000 นาย ขณะที่รัสเซียมีทหารราว 1.3 ล้านนาย ตนต้องการเพิ่มกำลังพลกองทัพโปแลนด์ รวมทั้งทหารสำรองในปัจจุบันจาก 200,000 นายเป็น 500,000 นาย
ทั้งนี้ โปแลนด์มีแผนที่จะใช้งบประมาณร้อยละ 4.7 ของผลิตภัณฑ์มวลรวมในประเทศ (จีดีพี) ไปกับการป้องกันประเทศในปีนี้ซึ่งถือเป็นสัดส่วนที่สูงที่สุดในกลุ่มพันธมิตรชาติสมาชิกองค์การสนธิสัญญาแอตแลนติกเหนือ (นาโต) ถึงอย่างนั้นนายทัสก์เสนอว่าควรเพิ่มงบกลาโหมเป็นร้อยละ 5 ของจีดีพี
