ศาลตัดสิน “ประหารชีวิต” – บีบีซี รายงานวันที่ 20 มี.ค. ว่า ศาลอินเดียพิพากษาประหารชีวิตชายผู้ต้องสงสัย 3 คนตามความผิดฐานร่วมกันฆาตกรรมชาวบ้านในกลุ่ม ดาลิต หรือ จัณฑาล 24 รายที่หมู่บ้านเทหุลี รัฐอุตตรประเทศ ทางตอนเหนือ เมื่อปี 2524 หรือราว 43 ปีก่อน
A court in India has sentenced three men to death for the 1981 murder of 24 people from the Dalit (formerly untouchable) community. The men were part of a gang of bandits who shot the victims, including women and children, in Dehuli village in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. BBC
ผู้พิพากษาศาลพิเศษระบุเมื่อวันที่ 18 มี.ค. ว่าการสังหารดังกล่าวจัดอยู่ในเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นไม่บ่อยนักเป็นเหตุให้พิจารณาโทษขั้นเด็ดขาดคือประหารชีวิตผู้ต้องสงสัยทั้งสามคนซึ่งยืนกรานว่าบริสุทธิ์ และยังสามารถยื่นอุทธรณ์คำตัดสินต่อศาลสูงได้
ขณะที่ญาติของเหยื่อแสดงความยินดีกับคำตัดสินแต่กล่าวว่าควรพิจารณาคดีเร็วกว่านี้เพราะผู้ต้องหา 13 คนจากทั้งหมด 17 คนเสียชีวิตไปแล้วระหว่างรอการพิพากษา หนำซ้ำยังมีผู้ต้องหาอีก 1 คนที่หลบหนี

จากหลักฐานการลงบันทึกของเจ้าหน้าที่ในขณะนั้นระบุว่าความรุนแรงเกิดขึ้นหลังจากสมาชิกแก๊งโจรซึ่งเป็นคนในชนชันดาลิตถูกเพื่อร่วมแก๊งที่มีวรรณะสูงกว่ารุมสังหารก่อนก่อเหตุโจมตีหมู่บ้าน เนื่องจากสงสัยว่าชาวบ้านบางคนให้ข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับคดีฆาตกรรม
