ส่งผลให้ผู้ประท้วงจำนวนมากออกมารวมตัวบนท้องถนนท่ามกลางสภาพอากาศหนาวเหน็บ ไม่กี่สัปดาห์หลังเจ้าหน้าที่สำนักงานตรวจคนเข้าเมืองและศุลกากรสหรัฐ (ไอซีอี) ยิงใส่รถของน.ส.เรเน่ กู้ด วัย 37 ปี จนเป็นเหตุให้เสียชีวิตเมื่อวันที่ 7 ม.ค.ที่ผ่านมา
นายทิม วอลซ์ ผู้ว่าการรัฐมินนิโซตา สั่งการให้กองกำลังรักษาความมั่นคงแห่งชาติในพื้นที่ช่วยเหลือตำรวจท้องถิ่นท่ามกลางการประท้วงที่ทวีความรุนแรงขึ้น
ด้านพ่อแม่ของนายเพรตติกล่าวว่าลูกชายเป็นพยาบาลประจำแผนกดูแลผู้ป่วยหนัก ศูนย์การแพทย์ของกระทรวงกิจการทหารผ่านศึกสหรัฐ และเข้าร่วมการประท้วงกรณีเจ้าหน้าที่สังหารน.ส.กู้ด
