ตำรวจนครมุมไบ “ยิงดับ” – บีบีซี รายงานวันที่ 31 ต.ค. ว่า ตำรวจนครมุมไบ รัฐมหาราษฏระ ทางตะวันตกของ ประเทศอินเดีย เปิดเผยว่าสามารถช่วยเหลือเด็ก 17 คนและผู้ใหญ่ 2 คนจากผู้ต้องสงสัยทราบชื่อในภายหลังคือ นายโรหิต อารยา ซึ่งก่อเหตุบุกจับตัวประกันที่โรงเรียนสอนการแสดงแห่งหนึ่ง

รายงานระบุว่าเจ้าหน้าที่พยายามเจรจากับชายที่จับตัวประกันในตอนแรก แต่เพราะนายอารยายืนกรานไม่ยอมจำนน ตำรวจจึงใช้กำลังบุกเข้าไปในอาคารผ่านหน้าต่างห้องน้ำ
โดยเจ้าหน้าที่พบปืนอัดลมและสารเคมีซึ่งไม่ได้ระบุชนิด ส่วนนายอารยาถูกตำรวจยิงระหว่างปฏิบัติการช่วยเหลือและเสียชีวิตที่โรงพยาบาลในเวลาต่อมา

เหตุดังกล่าวสร้างความตื่นตระหนกอย่างกว้างขวาง ผู้ปกครองของเด็กๆ และชาวบ้านพากันมารวมตัวอยู่ด้านนอกโรงเรียน ขณะที่สื่อท้องถิ่นเผยแพร่วิดีโอของผู้ต้องสงสัยซึ่งพูดว่าจับเด็กๆ เป็นตัวประกันเพราะต้องการถามคำถามบางอย่างกับบุคคลซึ่งไม่ระบุชื่อ
จากนั้นแนะนำตัวว่าชื่อโรหิต อารยา พร้อมเตือนว่า “แค่ขยับพลาดเพียงเล็กน้อยก็ทำให้ผมสะดุ้งได้” และขู่ว่าจะวางเพลิงเผาโรงเรียนด้วย ด้านตำรวจกำลังเร่งสืบสวนหาสาเหตุและแรงจูงใจที่แน่ชัด
