ควีนส์แลนด์แนะหลายพันคน – รอยเตอร์ รายงานวันที่ 2 ก.พ. ว่า ทางการ รัฐควีนส์แลนด์ ทางตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของ ประเทศออสเตรเลีย เรียกร้องให้ประชาชนหลายพันคนในพื้นที่ตอนเหนือของรัฐเร่งอพยพขึ้นสู่ที่สูง หลังฝนตกหนักและเกิดน้ำท่วมเป็นบริเวณกว้าง โดยเฉพาะเขตชายฝั่งฮินชินบรูกไชร์ซึ่มีประชากรราว 11,000 คน
ด้านกรมอุตุนิยมวิทยาของออสเตรเลียระบุผ่านเว็บไซต์ว่า ฝนที่ตกหนักมาจากความกดอากาศต่ำในเขตร้อนที่มีความชื้นสูง มีปริมาณน้ำฝนในช่วง 24 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมาสูงถึง 300 มิลลิเมตร พร้อมเตือนว่าความเสี่ยงที่จะเกิดฝนตกหนักและลมแรงคาดว่าจะต่อเนื่องไปจนถึงต้นสัปดาห์หน้า
ทั้งนี้ ในช่วงไม่กี่ปีที่ผ่านมาพื้นที่ภาคตะวันออกของออสเตรเลียประสบภัยน้ำท่วมบ่อยครั้ง รวมถึงอุทกภัยรุนแรงในรอบศตวรรษที่ทำให้เขตนอร์เทิร์นเทร์ริทอรีจมอยู่ใต้น้ำเมื่อเดือนม.ค.2566 2023 ระหว่างเผชิญกับปรากฏการณ์ลานีญาซึ่งกินเวลานานหลายปี

ควีนส์แลนด์แนะหลายพันคน – Australian authorities on Sunday urged thousands of people in north Queensland state to move to higher ground due to flooding caused by torrential rains. The flooding was triggered by heavy rain from a low pressure system rich in tropical moisture, Australia’s weather forecaster said on its website, adding that 24-hour rainfall totals were likely up to 300 mm.
